Regrets.

Jeff and I were discussing a regret of ours last night. It has to do with our cat, Berns.

You see, not long after we moved in to the apartment she left us an intriguing message in her litter box. We switched to clumping style since her box is in our bathroom and try to tend to it more regularly than we did in the past. She could have been doing this for years, but we'd never have noticed being lazy litter box changers.

It was an exclamation point. There could be no mistake. A thick stripe of pee that lead to a small dot-shaped turd. Uncanny in its accuracy. "!"

We chuckled wondering what she was trying to tell us. Could be a lot of things. Her health is failing; maybe she wanted to see a vet. Or maybe she was having a good day. Or perhaps she's sick of the kids and wanted us to know she was at the end of her rope. (ironic metaphor because Lars loves to "water ski" Berns. Her tail is the end of his rope.) Maybe she doesn't like Science Diet KD. We don't know.

She's been doing more abstract work these days. With the exception of the likeness of a bird one day, we haven't been able to recognize anything meaningful in the box since. Sigh.

Anyhow. We regret not taking a picture of her sandbox outburst. It really needed to be posted.
